The Converter
Battery Replacement.
You will Never have to buy another battery for your radio, EVER.
The Converter family takes power from a 13.8vdc rechargeable battery and then provides "A" battery output and a "B" battery output.
Converter-1 has been in our product line for about 10 months now and operates from a sealed lead acid or GelCell battery. In the case of Converter-1 the user must recharge the battery externally using an appropriate inexpensive car or motorcycle battery charger.
Converter-2 is our latest design and is capable of recharging the sealed lead acid or GelCell battery and power the radio at the same time. Converter-2 plugs into an 110vac or 230vac mains source and charges and operates the radio as if it were operating exclusively off of a battery.
The Converter family can be used as a “Plug-N-Play” replacement for batteries commonly used in tube/valve type radios such as the Zenith Transoceanic, RCA Strato-World, Hallicrafters 500, 600, 1000, 2000, Stromberg-Carlson AW8 and many, many others.
It operates just as if you had a NOS (New Old Stock) battery of 40 years ago. It is operated via your On/Off/Volume control with NO modifications what-so-ever to your radio.
If your radio used the following battery the Converter family is perfect for you.

(See your user manual or battery box to find the manufactures suggested battery).
It is the perfect marriage of yesterday’s elegance and craftsmanship with
today’s highly efficient technology.
Not only does the “Converter”
power your precious radio but it also prolongs
the life of your tubes by pampering the filament.
Have you ever noticed that a light bulb always burns out when it is turned on? It never burns out while in use or when you turn it off. It always “pops” when they are just being turned on (for the last time). A tube or valve does the same thing.
The “Converter” has current limiting that will not allow the filament to draw more than what it was designed to draw. When your tubes finally give in they will not “Pop” they will simply fade away and go to “tube heaven”. But they will have lived far longer having been powered by the “Converter”.
You can operate it with an internal 13.8VDC battery or connect it to your car battery (cigarette lighter?), boat battery or any 13.8vdc source.
Our “Converter” has
input polarity protection as well as input over voltage protection. This input
over voltage protection is meant to protect the
radio not the “Converter”. The
“Converter” also has a technique called
“Crowbar” protection on the “B” battery output. If in operation the “Converter”
has a short put upon the output of the terminals it simply shuts down and
terminates operation until the short is removed.
It even has DC input filtering; no noise will get into your radio via the power connection even if connected to an auto battery with the engine running.
The “Converter” is designed to be small and low profile and is capable of being mounted in any way you wish.
Converter-1 Dimensions: 4”1/2’ wide (11.5cm), 2”3/4’ deep (6cm), 1”3/4’ high (4.5cm).
Converter-2 Dimensions: 5”3/4’ wide (14 1/2cm), 3” deep (7 3/4cm), 1”3/4’ high (4 1/2cm).
The Converter/13.8dvc battery
combination is far smaller and lighter than 6 “D” cells and 60
“AA” cells and it’s designed by a real electronics engineer.
The Battery Life of the “Converter” will depend on a
number of issues, the most important being the age and condition of your tubes.
The older the tubes, the more filament current they draw. The “Converter” has loaded current and voltage regulation and therefore is far less
susceptible to surging. The current drain on the 90vdc supply will also vary
depending on capacitor leakage and resistor value slippage. The current on the
“B” battery is about 15ma but can go as high as 40ma.
We have done real time testing of the “Converter” on
all the Zenith Trans-Oceanics as listed below.
Based upon the assumption that you listen to your radio 5 hours a day (which is quite high) the following Battery verses days of operation can be seen.

ARE YOU AWARE that your classic Zenith Trans-Oceanic and Hallicrafters TW series tube/valve type radios are not fuse protected? Are you aware that the “AC/DC” chassis design only needs to make one grounded contact and it will destroy the power supply section in less than a second?
